 How the AlkaPro filter works:

Water is directed through our Patented KDF-55 Reticulated Foam Media.  KDF 55 Medium was designed  for removal of chlorine, chemicals and water-soluble heavy metals.  It controls scale, bacteria and algae, even in hot water. 

KDF Granular medias tend to pack and channel due to the nature of the filtration mechanism. KDF also requires frequent backwashing at high flow rates when used in tank systems. Reticulated KDF-55 Foam  solve all of the standard issues associated with granular use with no channeling or packing and uses less water in backwashing.

 So What is KDF 55 foam

· Composition:

KDF-55 is a high-purity copper-zinc alloy, not foam (but  because it looks like a sponge or foam; that's what we call it). . KDF-55 filter medium's unique redox process is protected by 14 US patents and numerous non-US patents.   

· Function:

It utilizes a redox (oxidation/reduction) process to remove chlorine, heavy metals (like lead, mercury, iron), and other contaminants from water. 

· How it works:

The unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electrochemical reaction that transfers free electrons between molecules, changing harmful contaminants into harmless components. 

· Applications:

KDF-55 is used in various water filtration applications, including whole-house water filters, and industrial water treatment systems.

Water then leaves the Patented KDF Distributor and is directed through High Quality Hospital Grade Catalytic Carbon which is the Highest Quality Carbon in the Water Treatment Industry.  The water is polished removing the remaining Chlorine, Chemicals, VOC's, Pesticides and other Contaminants.

No Channeling - No Packing - No Media Loss

We Never Mix KDF with Carbon 

KDF Manufacturer Does Not Recommend Mixing with Carbon as the weight of the KDF is 8 times Heavier than The Carbon.  It falls to the bottom of the tank and it useless in the Filtration of Water.

Also Granular KDF Media is very small and it can slip through media baskets in the tank. We have opened other systems and after 3 years the system has lost 40% of the Granular KDF.  Therefore losing valuable filtration capacity.  KDF Foam Cubes eliminate lost media.

Some of our competitors mix Granular KDF inside the tank with Carbon. Media Mixing Loses 60% Filtration Effectiveness because of lost contact time with the water.  Contact time is the most important aspect about water filtration in a tank.  If a company says they use (GAC) Granular Activated Carbon, they are using the lowest grade of carbon in the water industry.  They do this so they can come every 3-5 years to make more money changing the carbon in your system. These companies do not want you to know that technology is available that will last you 15 years without maintenance. KDF Reticulated Medias also have 70% lower weight than Granular KDF.

Activated carbon can be a host for non-pathogenic bacteria in the Carbon Bed. KDF 55 Reticulated Cubes inhibit bacterial growth which extends the life of the carbon.

IT'S JUST A BETTER WAY TO TREAT WATER

 If you are comparing our system to others, we use only 2 medias for a reason.  These 2 medias are the highest grade available in the filtering world and filters better compared to other systems that will use 4 to 7 different medias to try and do the same.  Remember as stated above, the more contact the water has with any one media the better.  Those multi media systems never have enough contact time with any one media to really filter well. Plus the other medias being used are often cheaper less effective products that may be effecting the water volume or pressure.  Multiple medias sounds nice and they'll tell you that too, but now you know.  Plus the medias; KDF 55 foam and High Activity Catalytic Carbon  we use does not effect the water pressure or volume.
